Mission

Intention:

A mission statement defines the purpose of an organization. It answers the question ‘Why are we here and do what we do?’ Written mission statements express the central intention of the entity they represent. A clear mission statement restores focus when it has been lost, and offers direction when there is disorientation.

Mission statements can serve the same purposes for individuals. Given that they can help us as we define and carry out our intentions and make daily and lasting decisions, here we are provided a space to outline our life’s mission statement.

Instruction:

Think about and answer the following questions:

What is my end, my main goal?

What is my primary function?

What am I here in this world for?

What is my broad vision about my life?

What is my central purpose regarding my roles?

For inspiration, you can refer to mission statements from organizations you belong to, respect and/or support.

Outline your mission statement first by noting your associations to the questions presented above.

Organize your notes into a coherent statement that reflects your mission.

Keep editing and modifying your mission statement until you are satisfied, until you think and feel it represents your present main intentions.

We offer the following questions for your reflection:

Inspection:

·       How does your mission statement relate to the values of your family and upbringing?

·       How does your mission statement relate to your social, cultural, spiritual background?

·       How does your mission statement relate to the values you identify with as an adult?

·       How does your mission statement reflect your current way of life?

·       How do you anticipate using this mission statement in your personal and occupational decision making?
