Masters, Mentors, Models
Intention:
We call masters those skilled in some art, and those who impart knowledge through teaching. Mentors serve as wise guides, tutors, coaches, counselors, advisors. Models are those who represent an example worthy of imitation.
Every area of knowledge has its masters. We learn about them and from them, even if we don't know them personally. We seek and find mentors who will walk with us, and we follow role models along the way. At some point, we may also become role models, mentors, or masters ourselves.
By dedicating ourselves to our personal and transpersonal learning, development, and growth, we honor our masters, mentors, and role models. Here we are invited to identify and acknowledge these influential figures in our life up to the present.
Instruction:
Make lists and write about the people you consider to be masters, mentors, and role models in your life, considering the different roles that you play.
You may also include anecdotes, examples, and related reflections.
We offer some guiding questions here.
Inspection:
· How do you select who to include when thinking about masters, mentors, and role models who have influenced you?
· Did you think of anyone you would have put on your list in the past, but not now?
· Did this exercise motivate you to directly thank or express your appreciation to any of those identified?
· What aptitudes do you expect from someone to be include on your list?
· What knowledge do you expect from someone to be included on your list?
· What skills do you expect from someone to be included on your list?
· When do you seek advice or guidance from masters, mentors, or role models?
· Would your name appear on somebody else's list of role models, mentors or masters?
