Gratitude & Joy

Appreciation,
attitude of gratitude.
Being thankful for Being.

Silence and music.
Appreciation for both.
Yes, light. Yes, shadows.

Stillness and movement.
Appreciation for both.
Yes, faith. Yes, doubt too.

May we greet each day
with a prayer and a song,
with a grateful soul.

…

We give thanks today.
Fortunate to be here, now.
We are still alive.

We give thanks today.
For we are still here, breathing.
Air, life, presence, being.

Nuanced, flavorful,
Bittersweet meals, melodies.
Fortunate we are.

So lucky we are.
Truly, immensely graced, blessed?
Gratitude to grace!

She opened the door.
And then, unexpectedly,
she found joy, disguised.

Strong and stubborn joy,
despite ever-present pain.
Better than meds, drugs.

Healed from the illness.
Recovered strength and vigor.
Gratitude, and joy.

They all come and go,
the sun, the moon, wind, rain, snow.
So do pain, and joy.

Their suffering, grief,
when no joy is remembered.
Our suffering, grief.

Their happiness, joy,
when all grief is forgotten.
Our happiness, joy.

Inhaling bright light, |
exhaling what is not light.
Joy is bright and light.

…

May we delight in
this theater’s lighter acts.
Tragicomedy.

Joy is resistance
to what should be otherwise.
Laughter fills the tank.

Loving and laughing.
He He He, Ha Ha Ha Ha!
Humor helps hearts heal.
