Emergency Plan

Intention:

An emergency is an unexpected combination of circumstances that require immediate attention. Emergencies can turn into crises that call for prompt and informed responses. The potential costs and consequences can be considerable. Time is of the essence. Designing an emergency plan ahead of time will help us to be and feel more prepared to respond to emergencies once they arise.

Here we are invited to outline an emergency plan for our personal use.

Instruction:

Consider what possible situations may present emergencies for you. Some examples are:

Injury, serious illness, or disability to you or your loved ones

Significant losses, such as those of a loved one, or of your home

Being the victim of a crime

Disasters, such as earthquakes, floods, fires, and tornadoes

Financial and/or legal crises

Think about the steps you can take now to prepare for an emergency. You can refer to emergency manuals that are available to you.

Involve other people in the process as appropriate.

Copy or write down your emergency plans. Follow whatever format you prefer.

Reflect on the process of developing your emergency plans with the following questions.

Inspection:

·       For what type of situations did you prepare your emergency plans?

·       Who did you involve in the process of preparing your emergency plans?

·       With whom have you shared your emergency plans? Your thoughts about it?

·       What was most difficult for you in preparing your emergency plans?

·       What steps have you already taken to prepare for emergencies?
