Two
Two extraordinary, special persons left on the same train, for wherever lies on the other side of this life’s curtain.
She, a Salvadoran woman.
He, a German man.
She, artist and activist.
He, contractor and pianist.
She cooked pupusas, enjoyed by one and all.
He delighted his family from his home’s music hall.
They never met, and their accents sounded different, but they had lots in common, and they were both magnificent.
Both gave themselves to their family and community.
Overcame adversity with courage and dignity.
Served as examples of kindness and integrity.
Both noble, strong, brave, resilient.
Both upright, tireless, inspiring, brilliant.
Yes, now many of us grieve over their parting.
Yet for having crossed their paths we feel deeply grateful.
On behalf of many others, we say “Mission met in full.”
May they both rest proud, in peace, in power, satisfied.
May we honor their memory, may we honor their lives.
