Past Portal Precautions

The door to the past,

always ajar,

permits us to peek,

or go in for a while.

But, beware!

If allowed to close while in yesterday we are,

we get caught, we get trapped,

among mementos, relics, trinkets, 

and the inertness

of what was.

Meanwhile,

we waste, we neglect,

the invitation

and the present

of the present.
